Washington, Mid-Prairie run at ISU indoor meet

Golden Hawks' Hostetler already qualified for Drake Relays

AMES - The Washington and Mid-Prairie girls track teams ran at the Iowa State High School Girls Classic Monday. It was an indoor meet.

Mid-Prairie’s Marie Hostetler won the 3000-meter race in a time of 10 minutes, 19.93 seconds. The Drake Relays qualifying standard is 10:30.0. Teammate Ana Fleming was 29th in 12:18.0.

Washington’s highest placewinner was Kelsey Pacha in the long jump. She was fifth with a leap of 16 feet, 0.25 inches.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Ashley Telleen, Leah Marek, Tori Hinson and Pacha finished in 4:38.66 to place 34th.

“Kelsey Pacha had a great meet,” Washington coach Stefanie Haworth said. “To finish fifth in the long jump was a great way for her to start her freshman year. She also ran solid splits in the 4x1 and 4x4. She works hard at practice everyday and I can’t wait to watch her continue to improve each meet. I was also very pleased with Ashley Telleen and Leah Marek in the 4x400. They both had solid splits and I expect them to drop all season.”

Isabel Bailey was 39th of 90 in the long jump at 14-0.5. Washington teamates Elyse Hunt (9.13) and Olivia Marek (9.43) were 74th and 99th of 135 in the 60 meters.

Samantha Miller threw the shot put 22-11.25 to place 85th.

Ashley Telleen ran the 60 hurdles in 11.0 to place 56th out of 118.

Victoria Hinson ran the 800 in 3:02.44 to place 67th out of 101 total and Grace Schiebel was 70th in 3:03.49.

The 4x100 of Marek, Bailey, Hunt, and Pacha ran 54.60 to take 20th out of 60 total.

“It was a good first meet,” Haworth said. “We were without a few girls due to spring break, but overall, the girls that competed did well. You can tell it’s still early and there are some things we haven’t had much of a chance to work on yet, but I felt like everyone left it all out there. It was a good starting point.”

Not all things went well as the sprint medley was disqualified.

For Mid-Prairie, Mitzi Evans was seventh in the 800 in 2:29.1 and Carmen Sieren was 85th in 3:15.13.

The 4x4 relay team of Angelina Evans, Abbagail Evans, Sarah Meader and Mitzi Evans was eighth in 4:19.4.

Amber Swart was 15th in the 60 in 8.49 while Katelyn Schneider ran a 9.81.

The sprint medley of Cassidy Rourke, Colby Brown, Rylee Vercande and Angelina Evans took 32nd in 2:04.52.
