Valdez leads area boys scorers

Columbus High School’s boys basketball team saw Eric Valdez score a game-high total in Tuesday’s game at Mediapolis.

Highland 66, Louisa-Muscatine 52

The Huskies won on the road Tuesday over their Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division foe.

Highland took a 15-7 lead after one period of play and stretched it to 39-24 by halftime. L-M had a 13-9 advantage in the third quarter, but Highland had the edge, 18-15, in the last quarter.

The Falcons fall to 3-6 in the North, 3-8 overall.

Highland is 8-3 overall, 7-2 in the North. The Huskies play host to Mediapolis (7-3, 5-3) Friday. Highland won at Mediapolis 63-60 in the second game of the season.

Keota 69, HLV 28

The Eagles won the home South Iowa Cedar League game Tuesday by clamping down on defense.

The visitors led 16-13 after the first quarter but scored just 12 points the rest of the game. It was 35-21 at halftime.

JD Stout put up 20 points and took down seven rebounds for the Eagles while assisting on six shots. Brady Duwa also snagged seven rebounds to go with his five points, four steals and three assists. Luke Hammen produced 14 points, three rebounds and three assists.Carson Sprouse reached double digits off the bench with 11 points.

The Eagles had 17 assists on 25 made field goals.

Keota is 8-5 overall, 7-3 in the SICL and hosts Washington today.

Mediapolis 72, Columbus 35

Three Bulldogs reached double figures as the Bulldogs posted a North Division win over the visitors.

Ben Wolgemuth’s 19 points led Mediapolis.

Columbus’s Eric Valdez led all scorers with 24 points, including four 3-pointers. Mason Hodges added five points.

Columbus is 1-10, 1-7 in the North and plays Pekin at Packwood Friday.
