Two teams of area interest claimed state titles in the Iowa High School Athletic Association football playoffs Thursday at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Hudson, which defeated Highland in the second round of the Class A playoffs, claimed its championship with a 30-7 win over AHSTW of Avoca (12-1).

Highland was tied at halftime in its game with Hudson (13-0) before losing. Christian Seres ran for 161 yards on 32 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Pirates in the title game. It was the third state title for Hudson, the first since 1994. The Pirates were second in Class A last season.

In the 8-man Class, New London (12-1) rolled to a 55-14 win over Rockford (11-2) for its first state championship.

The Tigers rolled up 415 total yards of offense — 221 rushing, 194 passing — to cruise to victory. Six different players scored touchdowns, including a Mason Porter touchdown reception and a Keontae Luckett scoring run in the span of a minute and 45 seconds to put the Tigers up 14-0 midway through the first quarter.

New London led 21-6 at half and went up 42-6 in the third quarter to start the running clock.
