KALONA - After a 4-0 defeat of Cedar Valley Christian Thursday, injuries and tired bodies took a toll on No. 8 (Class 1A) Iowa Mennonite School with a loss in the first round of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference soccer tournament Friday to Danville 3-2.
IMS was able to score first with Jorge Canchola sending a pass to Louise Etienne 12 minutes into the first half. Danville responded 10 minutes later, then added a second goal late in the first half and made it 3-1 halfway through the second.
With 16 minutes on the clock, Blake Bontrager sent a ball into the box where Drew Blauvelt struck it to make the score 3-2. IMS moves to 8-4 overall and remains at 6-1 in the conference race. IMS finishes its regular season today at IMS with the game time at 4:30 p.m. Between the varsity and JV games, IMS will recognize four seniors, Jacob Boller, Blake Bontrager, Louis Etienne, and Cody Jones.
In the 4-0 win, Will Kolk’s assist helped John Hughes open the scoring, before Louis Etienne took over and registered a hat trick. Brian Maren assisted on Cedar Valley’s opening kick as Noah Miller intercepted a pass then sent it up field where Brian Maren got the ball to Etienne, who scored 12 seconds into the half. At the 33-minute mark, Blake Bontrager assisted on the Etienne goal.
