The high school outdoor track season will get underway Thursday at Case Field in the Steve Roth Washington Relays.
It is the 58th annual event.
Some area teams have a couple of indoor meets under their belys but this will be the first competition outside.
The forecast calls for a high of 52 degrees and only 10 percent chance of precipitation.
There will be 18 schools represented divided into three classes. Some of the larger schools will also run a junior varsity team in the smaller classes.
The large class (A) field has Cedar Rapids Prairie, Iowa City West, Iowa city High, Mt. Pleasant, Washington and Cedar Rapids Xavier.
The B division has Fairfield, Ft. Madison, Mediapolis, West Burlington Notre Dame along with the Washington and Iowa City High junior varsities.
The small school (C) division hosts Columbus, Danville, Highland, Iowa City High freshmen/sophomores, Keota, WACO, Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union.
Field events start at 3:30 p.m. and running events begin at 3:45 p.m.
Some special events are the Jim Calvin Memorial long jump, John Sproule 4x800 meter relay, Harold Ahrens 4x200 meter relay, Gene Turner 800 meter run, E.K. Schlapkohl Memorial 200 meter dash, Steve Roth 4x100 meter relay and the Doug Dunlap 4x400 meter relay.
