Demons land 9 on all-district teams

Washington High School saw nine of its players land on the Class 3A All-District 6 football teams.

Luke Turner, Ben Baughman, Ethan Hunt, Cade Hennigan and Tristin Westphal-Edwards made the first team.

Trashaun Willis, Jarrett Bender, Jadon Crawford and Chase McDole made the second team.

Turner completed 108 passes in 211 attempts for 1,446 yards with just four interceptions and 16 touchdowns. He also rushed 127 times for 508 yards and another 10 TDs. His total yards placed him second in the district.

Yardage cannot be gained without lineman blocking and Baughman was one of the best in the league. He also had 31.5 tackles from his spot in the defensive line.

Westphal-Edwards rushed 84 times for 350 yards. He was second on the Demons in total tackles with 51. He tied for the team lead with Baughman in solo tackles for loss with nine.

Hunt was fourth in the district with 470 yards receiving. He scored five touchdowns including a long of 81 yards. He led the district’s receivers in yards per catch with an average of 23.5.

Hennigan was seventh in the district with 30 receptions and his 421 yards was sixth. His seven receiving touchdowns was second in the district.

Mt. Pleasant’s Zach Beason was the offensive Most Valuable Player. The defensive MVP was Solon’s Adam Bock. He was also voted the special teams MVP. The Outstanding lineman was Fairfield’s Tristin Waugh.

An All-Academic team was also named. To be on the All-Academic team, a player had to be a junior or senior with a 3.25 grade point average or above.

Solon had 30 student/athletes make the academic team while Keokuk had three. Mt. Pleasant had 16 and Fairfield 11. Washington’s players that qualified for the All-Academic team were Ben Baughman, Kyle Dallmeyer, Cade Hennigan, Garrett Ikerd, Lincoln Kleese, Chase McDole, Jace Buck, Ryan Friese, Brady Knutson, and Luke Turner.
