PELLA — Washington won a high school baseball game Thursday over the Dutch 7-3.
Trailing 2-1, Wilx Witthoft put the Demons on top with a two-run double in the third inning. Ethan Patterson plated Witthoft with a double for a 4-2 lead.
The home team scored a run in the bottom of the third off of Demon starter Cade Hennigan, who was lifted with two on base and no out in the fifth. Patterson took the mound and fanned all three outs to end the inning. He finished with 7 K’s, no hits and no walks. Hennigan gave up five walks, five hits, three runs, two earned, and one strikeout.
The Demons added two more runs in the fourth inning as Hennigan and Luke Turner each batted in a run. Kole Hinrichsen’s double in the fifth scored Brant Stout, who had singled.
Washington improves its season record to 20-7 and hosts Oskaloosa Monday. Oskaloosa (20-10) has recieved votes in the latest Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association poll.
