Washington woman killed in Monday morning crash in Cedar Rapids

An 18-year-old Washington woman was killed Monday morning a crash on Blairs Ferry Road near Feather Ridge Road in Cedar Rapids.

According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Susan Geels, 54, of Cedar Rapids, was traveling east on Blairs Ferry Road when her vehicle was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by an 18-year-old woman identified as Katelyn Miranda, of Washington, shortly after 8 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 11.

The sheriff’s office said an investigation determined Miranda lost control of her vehicle on the icy road and slid into oncoming traffic, striking Geels’ vehicle head on.

Miranda was pronounced dead at the scene. Geels was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Blairs Ferry and Feather Ridge roads were blocked for about two hours while the sheriff’s office investigated and cleared the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
