A caller Monday evening at Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported having an inmate who was wanted out of Minnesota. Michael Darell Wright, 24, of Champaign, Illinois, was arrested on a Rochester, Minnesota, Olmsted County Sheriff’s office warrant for burglary in the second degree, with no bond, hold for court. Arrangements will be made with Olmsted County for extradition. The subject was also wanted out of Winona County Sheriff’s office in Minnesota for failure to appear on original charge of fraud, with no bond, hold for court.

A caller Monday night at East Washington Street in Washington reported a belligerent customer in the store. An officer responded. The subject left before the officer arrived. The subject was located at the Wagon Wheel. Monica Guzman, 34, of Washington, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.

An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, Monday night at Enterprise Drive in Riverside. Jarek Madison Brown, 20, was arrested on a charge of OWI first offense, and speeding 78 mph in a 65-mph zone.

A deputy reported being out at a residence in Kalona, Monday night at A Avenue in Kalona. Travis Allen Deeley, 29, of Kalona, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, first offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bond was $800 cash only. The warrant was cleared from the system.

Fire calls

A caller Monday afternoon at West 18th Street in Washington reported that the carbon monoxide detector was going off. The building was a duplex. Washington Fire responded and checked the residence.

Animal complaint

A caller Monday morning at North Avenue B in Washington reported that while she was walking her dog, a tan-colored Shar Pei chased her. She had to pepper-spray it. It lived at a nearby corner residence. The dog and another Shar Pei chased her on Saturday, as well. An officer responded. Cornelio Sahagun was issued a written warning for allowing a dog to run at large. Proof of rabies vaccinations was provided and up-to-date. The dog’s name was Spike.

A caller Monday night at Highway 78 and Fir Avenue in Brighton reported a dead deer in the middle of the roadway. An officer responded and removed the deer from the roadway.


A caller Monday afternoon at 130th Street in Riverside reported that an Adams leaning wheel grader was taken from a property. An officer left a message for the caller. Documentation was made.

Motor vehicle theft

Charges were filed Monday on a juvenile for operating without owner’s consent. This was in reference to an incident that occurred on Nov. 5 in Kalona, in which a vehicle was reported as stolen.


A caller Monday morning at Oriole Drive in Kalona reported that his son was on the property. A neighbor saw him there on Saturday, and he was not supposed to be there. An officer spoke with the caller, who requested that contact be made with his son to no longer be on the property. The son was advised.


A caller Monday afternoon at Wayland Road in Washington reported an attempted break-in to one of their storage units. There was a dent in the door due to trying to pry the lock off. No entry was gained. Extra patrol was provided, and documentation was made.

All other theft

A caller Monday morning at East Washington Street in Washington reported the theft of money. The incident is under investigation.

A caller Monday afternoon at West Madison Street in Washington reported a gas drive-off of $56.73. The vehicle was a dark-colored truck. An officer was advised, and an additional officer responded to the owner’s residence. Contact was made with the owner via phone, and they planned to make contact with the business. This was not intentional. They had purchased other items, and the gas was not on their bill.

A caller Monday night at East Washington Street in Washington reported locating a wallet. An officer responded and retrieved the wallet.
