United Methodist Women celebrate International Women's Day

The Washington United Methodist Women met on March 8 for a noon Agape meal which was hosted by Marilyn Whitenack and Ilene Schnicker. Fourteen members and guests were present.

Ilene Schnicker gave the devotions and Prayer and Self- Denial Program. She used Mark 10:13-16 as the scripture. She discussed food for Hacap, groups who help children and needy in Washington. Several members were readers with response from others. She recommended the DVD Beyond the Blackboard as an interesting resource.

Sally Beasley, Education and Interpretation chairman, gave a report on several events like Spa Day in Eastern Iowa, Day Care in Alpine, Texas and Ready to serve in Kenai, Alaska. She recommended checking online for information on the recent meeting in St. Louis.

Marilyn Whitenack reported that World Day of Prayer was attended by about 40 people. There was a very interesting program and attended by several other churches.

Shirley Pfeifer discussed a short history from old books of the United Methodist Women. This is the 150-year anniversary. Several women left to mark International Women’s Day as they marched around the square ringing bells.
