Washington County Hospital and Clinics recently implemented a Patient Family Advisory Council. Comprised of patients, family members, staff liaisons and hospital leadership, the council aims to collect feedback from patients and families, incorporate observations and suggestions into the health care system’s operations, and enhance customer experience.

“Our vision is to provide quality health care that puts people first and we continuously strive to improve patient experience in every way we can,” stated Todd Patterson, Chief Executive Officer at WCHC. “One of the best ways to continuously improve is to listen to what our patients and their families have to say.”

The Patient Family Advisory Council will meet quarterly, or as needed, to provide feedback on the delivery of services as well as review recommendations for changes in policy, procedure, facilities, and services. Members have the opportunity during each meeting to share their stories and experiences firsthand, and then work together to brainstorm and discuss potential improvements or solutions.

Community members currently serving on the Patient Family Advisory Council include Leigh Wolf, Dave Hoffman, Sarah Bailey, Jeri Blum, Adam Miller, and Kara Williams. Staff liaisons and leadership include Jill McNurlen, Director of Care Coordination; Andrea Leyden, Chief Nursing Officer; Betsy Peiffer, Director of Quality, Safety, and Risk; and Amanda Van Weelden, Director of Clinic Nursing.

With assistance of the Patient Family Advisory Council, WCHC will continue to provide and improve a compassionate and supportive health care experience for the residents of Washington County and the surrounding area.
