In sports, it always helps to have momentum. The Washington High School boys golf team used momentum to grab two victories last week.
The Demons hosted a seven-team invitational Saturday and won the team race with a 317 total. Pella was seven strokes behind in second place.
?I was very proud of our team for how they played Saturday,? Washington head coach Mark Berhow said. ?This was another example of a team win.?
Spencer Tucker of Oskaloosa posted the low 18-hole score with a 72. Dalton Myers defended his home course with a 74 to score runner-up medalist honors.
?Dalton led us and many of the other golfers had birdies and birdie opportunities,? Berhow said.
Brock Sobaski and Jacob Van Osdol each posted a round of 80 and Demons teammate Brady Knutson had an 83.
?Our goal is to continue to develop momentum as we head into the last half of the season and postseason,? Berhow said.
The Demons warmed up for Saturday with momentum from a Friday win at Cedarcrest Golf Course, downing Mid-Prairie 158-165. Columbus? Ryan Orr shot 45, Enav Reeves 47 and Tucker Bright 50 but the Wildcats didn?t have a team score.
Knutson earned medalist honors with a 37 score over nine holes. Van Osdol and Sobaski had a 39 each and Dalton Myers posted a 44.
Michael Callahan went low for Mid-Prairie with his round of 39. Teammate Noah Slabaugh was right behind with his round of 40. Collin Gingerich had a 42 and Ryan Slaubaugh 44.
The Demons have a 21-1 record this season.
