Her body has been cremated. An informal gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Online condolences may be sent for Wanita's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
Wanita was born June 23, 1932 near Cotter, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Dorothy Knott Owens. She played 6-on-6 basketball at Ainsworth High School until she graduated in 1950. On September 23, 1951, she married Ed Zieglowsky. Together they worked their century farm for the next 66 years.
She fiercely loved her family, her friends, and her Hawkeyes. For many years she was part of Ione Burham's brigade, preparing funeral dinners at the United Methodist Church. Her gravy was particularly admired. Her interest in her family's history led to many years serving on the Washington County's Historic Preservation Commission. She encouraged her daughter to read.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Ed, of Ainsworth; her daughter, Debby Baker (Dick) of rural Cedar County; three step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson; her brother, Daryl Owens (Pat) of Washington; her sisters, Joyce Campbell (John) of Cedar Falls and Media Fulton (George) of Washington; and two sisters-in-law, Sharee Owens of Columbus Junction and Alberta Thornton (Ted) of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two nephews, and her great-niece
