WEST CHESTER ? Two people were transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Washington County call log, the accident was reported at 2:09 p.m. at Ginkgo Avenue and 190th Street in West Chester. No trap was reported and the vehicles did not roll. Washington County Sheriff?s deputies, Wellman QRS, Wellman Fire, Wellman Rescue, Washington County Rescue, Washington County Ambulance, and Air Care responded.
The drivers of the vehicles in the accident were reported to be Thomas Dean of Albia and Carolann Ruth Ewalt of Wellman. A state accident report will be filed.
The initial report says that a gray Chevrolet Impala driven by Dean was travelling westbound on 190th Street and a red Chevrolet Aveo was travelling southbound on Ginkgo Avenue.
The report said the Impala failure to yield as it crossed the intersection and the front side made contact with the Aveo?s driver?s side, sending both vehicles into the southwest corner of the intersection and into a ditch.
The reprt said Ewalt suffered a ?major head injury,? and that Dean was hospitalized for a laceration to his finger and a possible head injury.
AirCare transported Ewalt to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and Washington County Ambulance transported Dean.
A passenger in Ewalt?s car refused treatment and went to the hospital via private vehicle. Two flatbeds responded to remove the vehicles.
