Theft suspects chased, arrested in Louisa County

WAPELLO ? Two suspects in a theft case were arrested after a high-speed chase of over 100 mph Monday evening.

According to a news release from the Louisa County Sheriff?s office, a deputy had attempted to stop a black Chevy Impala for an illegal pass while the vehicle was traveling north on Highway 61 in Wapello. The vehicle did not pull over and continued north at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The pursuit continued into Muscatine County and then came back into Louisa County on County Road X61. The vehicle continued south onto Highway 99 at speeds greater than 100 mph. A Des Moines County Sheriff?s deputy deployed tire deflation sticks near the intersection of SE Walker Road and highway 99. While attempting to avoid the tire deflation sticks, the vehicle struck a bridge causing damage to both driver?s side tires. The vehicle came to a stop at about 7:08 p.m.

The driver, Ashley Roebuck, 30, of Davenport, and a passenger, Jason Ringold, 19, of Davenport, were taken into custody. Further investigation showed the two were both suspects from a theft at a business in Burlington earlier in the day. Over $500 worth of property was recovered from the suspect vehicle.

Ringold was transported back to the Burlington Police Department while Roebuck was transported to the Louisa County Jail for aggravated eluding and multiple traffic citations.

No injures were reported and the only damage reported was tot he suspect vehicle. The Louisa County Sheriff?s office was assisted by the Muscatine County Sheriff?s office, Des Moines County Sheriff?s office, the Iowa State Patrol and the Burlington Police Department.
