Swift honored by Legion for 75 years of service

The weekly church services were provided by Pastor Jon Rocha, representing the Prairie Flower Baptist Church. The sermon was titled ?People Change.? Scripture from Philippians 1:6.


Halcyon House resident Bob Swift, was honored by the American Legion of Washington, Iowa, Thursday, May 31.


Bob has been a member of the American Legion for 75 years. Bob?s family, son, Craig Swift and grandson, Abe Swift accompanied Bob as he was presented a commemorative plaque during a very meaningful ceremony. American Legion members attending were Mike York, Bob Kennedy and Allen Fuhr. What a wonderful honor for Bob! Several Halcyon House residents were also in attendance to help Bob celebrate with refreshments afterward.


Halcyon House Wellness Coordinator, Megan Richardson hosted the monthly Birthday Club for the June birthdays in the Applewood Bistro, Monday, June 4. Lila Davis, Jean Fontiel, Betty Quinn, Connie Sorrell, Rita Greiner, and Carol Madsen join Megan for doughnuts and coffee.


On Tuesday, June 5, volunteers Betty Beenblossom and Jane Cuddeback from the United Presbyterian Church, came to Halcyon House to distribute Holy Communion to eight residents. We appreciate these ladies going room to room to share this service.


Halcyon House Well Ahead Community Members Jane Leyden, Carole Peoples, Lois Lemley, Kathy Ross, Nancy Patterson, Linda Lowe, Nancy Crites, Carol Miller, Peg Helscher, Diane Gallagher, Alma Christianson, Heather Schenk, Greta Embree and Becky Carter took Mercy Brinning, Halcyon House Wellness Coordinator out to lunch to celebrate her birthday! The group also celebrated nearly 10 years of exercising together! Following lunch everyone enjoyed a delicious piece of birthday cake that Kathy Ross provided for the celebration. A huge shout to this wonderful group of ladies that made Mercy?s birthday extra special!


June is national Cheese Month, therefore the trivia program was ?It was a Cheesy Kind of Day?. Everyone started out with a word search puzzle titled ?Cheese It.? Chicken and Bisket crackers along with easy cheese in a can, was part of this cheesy program. Some fun facts about cheeses was also shared. Did you know it takes 10 gallons of milk to make one pound of cheese ?


President Andrew Jackson once had a block of cheddar cheese delivered to the white house that weighed 1,400 lbs. He invited 10,000 visitors to the White House to eat it and it was gone within two hours.
