Washington County 4-H County Council sponsored their 10th annual Washington County Spring Preview Cattle Show on Saturday, April 28. It was an Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association sanctioned show held at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Eighty-seven youth with over 120 calvesfrom Washington County and across the state participated.
Supreme Champion breeding heifer went to Makenna Streigel from Moravia with a Mainetainer heifer.
Seventeen Washington County exhibitors participated in the show. Several of them earning top honors. In the breeding division: Brynn Younge of Wellman earned the Overall Grand Champion Breeding heifer with a commercial heifer. Peighton Ford of West Chester earned reserve champion Foundation Simmental. Roy Carter of Washington earned reserve champion Simmental. In the market division Ryland Shalla of Riverside earned Champion Charolois steer. Mason Juhl of Hedrick earned Champion Shorthorn. Peighton Ford of West Chester earned Champion Simmental. Taylor Brinning of Keota won Reserve Grand Champion Market steer with her champion crossbred steer.
The cattle show was planned by the Washington County 4-H County Council with the help of the 4-H Youth Committee. Youth volunteers assisted with set up, check-in, ring help, food booth and clean up. Proceeds from the event go towards 4-H and fairground improvement projects. The event was made possible by the generous support of local businesses and families.
