Arrests


Matthew Allen Williams, 27, of Fairfield, was arrested Wednesday morning in the 2500 block of Redwood Avenue in Washington on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.


Matthew Allen Valentine, 30, of Kalona, was arrested Wednesday night in the 500 block of Ninth Street in Kalona on a charge of child endangerment (aggravated misdemeanor). DHS was also contacted.


 


Traffic accident


A caller Wednesday morning in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported that a semi hit his mother-in-law?s car and left toward Brighton. There was damage to the left front corner. A message was left for the driver, who just made a delivery. An officer responded. Damages amounted to more than $1,500, and a state accident report will be filed. Information was exchanged. There were no citations. The accident occurred on private property.


A caller Thursday morning in the 3000 block of Coppock Road in Washington reported that subjects came to her door asking if she could pull them out of the ditch. An officer responded. Documentation was made.


 


Fire calls


A caller Wednesday night in the 1400 block of Redwood Avenue in Brighton requested Brighton Fire Department and Brighton QRS for a truck fire. No structures were nearby. Brighton Fire Department responded. The vehicle was down a dirt road, fully engulfed upon the Fire Department?s arrival.


Iowa County requested Wellman Fire for a two-story house fire, Thursday morning in the 3000 block of 300th Street in Parnell. Everyone was out of the residence. A Washington County Rescue unit, Williamsburg Fire, North Keokuk County Fire, Wellman Fire, Wellman QRS and Kalona Fire responded.


 


Drug/narcotics violation


An officer reported having additional charges on a subject, Wednesday morning in the 2500 block of Redwood Avenue in Washington. Charges were filed on Matthew Allen Williams, 27, of Fairfield, for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.


A caller Wednesday morning in the 1100 block of South Avenue B in Washington reported suspicious activity in a bathroom with three juveniles. The parents were contacted. The incident was unfounded.


 


False information


A caller Wednesday morning in the 200 block of West Main Street in Washington reported that a subject was using a fake ID to purchase alcohol at a local establishment in Washington. An officer left a message with the caller.


 


Fraud


A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 800 block of Oak Street in Ainsworth reported a fraudulent situation with a female subject who sold her items at her home. The caller lost $78.15 and one pan. An officer made contact with the seller. The money and the items would be returned by the end of the week.


 


Runaways/missing person


A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 100 block of South Sixth Street in Kalona reported that his 16-year-old daughter stayed at her boyfriend?s house last night and did not go to school that day. The caller requested that a deputy attempt to locate her. The juvenile was entered into the system.


A caller Thursday morning in the 700 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported that he located his missing daughter and would like assistance getting her from an address. An officer responded, and the daughter was returned to the father. Subjects were advised that the juvenile was not to be back on their property. The daughter and the father were going to go through the emancipation process. The juvenile was removed from the system as missing.


 


Search warrant


An officer reported being out at a residence assisting DNR with a search warrant, Wednesday morning in the 2500 block of Redwood Avenue in Washington. The search warrant was executed.


 


Suspicious activity


A caller Wednesday night in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported a light on near a vehicle in the area. When he went outside, the light went off. The caller believed there was someone going from vehicle to vehicle in the neighborhood. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate anyone.


 


Trespass


A caller early Thursday morning in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported that a subject was trespassing. Officers responded. Nicholas James Wayne, 27, homeless, was cited into court for trespassing.


 


Vandalism


A caller Wednesday morning in the 2700 block of Fern Cliff Road in Wayland reported damages at Fern Cliff Park. A report will be filed. Charges were filed on 10 juveniles: a 17-year-old male, for possession of tobacco and fifth-degree criminal mischief; a 16-year-old male, for possession of alcohol, possession of tobacco and fifth-degree criminal mischief; a 17-year-old male, for fifth-degree criminal mischief; a 17-year-old male, for possession of alcohol and fifth-degree criminal mischief; a 17-year-old male, for possession of tobacco and fifth-degree criminal mischief; a 17-year-old male, for possession of tobacco and fifth-degree criminal mischief; a 16-year-old male, for possession of tobacco and fifth-degree criminal mischief; a 17-year-old male, for possession of alcohol and fifth-degree criminal mischief; a 17-year-old male, for possession of alcohol and fifth-degree criminal mischief; and a 16-year-old male, for possession of tobacco.


 


Weather related


A caller Thursday morning at South Benton Street and East Madison Street in Brighton reported that there was a tree down blocking the roadway on Benton Street between Madison Street and Railroad Street. The caller did not know if any power lines were down. Brighton Fire and the City of Brighton responded. The road was blocked off until daylight, when they could attempt to remove the tree from the roadway.


 


Welfare check


A caller Wednesday morning in the 800 block of South Avenue C requested a welfare check on a subject. An officer responded and was unable to locate anyone at the apartment. Nearly two hours later, the caller advised that the subject had a doctor?s appointment in Iowa City and was OK. The responding officer was advised.


 


All other offenses


A caller Wednesday morning in the 1100 block of South Avenue B in Washington requested an officer to assist with students under the influence.


An officer responded. The incident was unfounded.


A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of West Third Street in Washington reported that a male subject was knocking on the door and forced his girlfriend to leave the apartment.


Officers responded and spoke with all parties. The female left the residence willingly. The report was unfounded.
