Washington Noon Kiwanis member Dean Garrett was recognized for 50 years of perfect attendance on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Garrett has been a faithful member of the Noon Kiwanis club and has had perfect attendance since 1967. Garrett was also awarded the Walter Zeller Fellow award for his dedication to the club.
President Dean Kurtz stated, ?Having perfect attendance even for one year is quite an accomplishment ? for Dean to have done that for 50 consecutive years is astonishing. We meet weekly and we can always count on Dean to be there.? Garrett told the club that his most memorable meeting was 30,000 feet in the air on a flight from Des Moines to Spain. He traveled with a club from Cedar Falls and their President called the meeting to order mid-flight.
In his many years of serving for Kiwanis in the Washington area and beyond, Garrett has contributed time, effort and resources to serve the children of the world. Kiwanis has a system in place where if a member misses their club meeting they can attend a club meeting in a different location. Washington also has a morning Kiwanis club and Garrett stated, ?Our club meets on Wednesday at noon so I have made up some of my meetings with the morning club on Fridays and various clubs throughout the state and world.?
Noon Kiwanis meets every Wednesday at noon on the third floor of the Washington YMCA. For membership, questions or more information on Kiwanis contact Dean Kurtz at firstname.lastname@example.org or 319-461-7132.
