The Mid-Prairie High School girls golf team hosted West Branch Monday at the Kalona Golf Club and won by six strokes, 206-212, behind meet medalist Paige Slabaugh?s 46.
?For the conditions the kids had to play in, it was tough,? Mid-Prairie coach Tracy McArtor said. ?With wind chills into the 30?s and overcast skies, I honestly would have assumed scores would jump four to five shots each from the previous meet, just due to the weather. But just the opposite happened and the girls cut 10 strokes off their team score from last week and a couple of the kids set new 9-hole personal bests for our course. I was proud of how each of them fought through the conditions and just played their game.?
Abbi Patterson shot a 48, Kendra Schaefer 55 while Emma Mattes and Abigail Statler both carded a 57.
?Paige continued her consistent play,? McArtor said. ?Abbi was only two shots off the medalist pace and that came with a score of nine on her first hole of the day after hitting her tee shot out of bounds. Emma and Kendra were solid. We worked hard on putting last Friday behind us and getting ready for today and I could really see the benefits from that. We?ll do more of the same this week and add in some short game as well. A great job today against a tough conference team in West Branch.?
