Lela M. Miller

Lela M. Miller, 92, of Wayland, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.


A celebration of life service was held on Monday, May 14, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in rural Wayland with Pastors Nathan and Rachelle Luitjens officiating. Burial was held prior to the service at 10 a.m. at the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Friends called after 3 p.m. at the church on Sunday where the family was present from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Sugar Creek Mennonite Women's Sewing Group or to the Parkview Home of Wayland in her memory.


Lela was born on March 23, 1926, near Shickley, Neb., the daughter of Fred C. and Nellie Detweiler Reeb. She was united in marriage to Harold Joseph Miller on June 10, 1945 at the Salem Mennonite Church in Shickley, Neb.; he preceded her in death on January 27, 2018. Lela was a school teacher for two years teaching in rural schools and was a C.N.A at the Parkview Home in Wayland for 18 years. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, sewing, gardening and was a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.


Lela is survived by her children: two sons, Ron (Diana) Miller of Mt. Pleasant, Jim (Jane) Miller of Wayland; one daughter, Sheila (Kevin) Fort of Wayland; and a son-in-law, Tom (Jeanette) Benedict of Oceola, Ind.; six grandchildren: Danielle (Ryan) Ensminger, Chad (Elisha) McMullin, Jessy (Katie) McMullin, Chet (Krista) Fort, Megan (Mike) Ineichen and Timothy Benedict; and 12 great-grandchildren.


Lela was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Lila Benedict; and three sisters, Lorene Lauber, Aldene Troyer and Della Beckler.
