People who wish to learn more about the project to build a new fire hall or have specific questions answered can attend the last of three city-sponsored meetings on the project.
The meeting will be held in the Washington Fire Hall at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Visitors will also get the chance to tour the fire station to see the need for the construction of a new fire station.
During the last meeting, in order to make one for the attendees, the fire department had to back one truck out of the fire hall and park another one diagonally.
?A new fire station will be constructed south of this existing building,? Washington City Administrator Brent Hinson said. ?Once the fire department has vacated, we will start on a renovation of the existing building for city hall and police.?
He said the conceptual design of the new buildings in what has been dubbed ?the campus plan? is now just being completed.
Once the state is done, the schematic and full design of the new fire station will be done, with improvements to the existing building coming later.
He said on June 1, 2018, two city bonds ? which were used to construct the new library and the downtown streetscape project ? would retire.
A spatial needs survey done in 2014 showed the city offices need about 25,000 square feet, and are currently housed in a 9,400 square foot building.
The proposed designs total $2.5 million for the new fire station and about $1.2 million for the renovation of the municipal building.
Hinson said the project is being done with existing money so no tax increase is required, nor is a bond referendum.
The council agreed to the plan after a proposal to use the former library building as city hall was rejected by the current council.
The new plan calls for the construction of a new fire station and will house the police department and city hall in the current municipal building.
