Journal to honor Washington County 2018 Baby New Year

With Christmas and New Year?s Eve celebrations in the past, The Washington Evening Journal is waiting to honor the 2017 Washington County Baby New Year.

Again this year, The Washington Evening Journal hopes to celebrate the birth of the first baby of 2017 at Washington County Hospital and Clinics with the child?s family. Baby New Year will be the first child born in Washington County Hospital. Residency in Washington County is not a requirement. Parents are asked to call The Washington Evening Journal at 653-2191 within 24 hours of the child?s birth or 319-548-1177 after business hours or on weekends. Parents can also email The Journal at The hospital has been asked to inform The Journal of the first birth of the year, but parents are encouraged to call as well.

After the baby is confirmed as the first child of 2018, the child and the parents will be featured on the front page of The Washington Evening Journal. The parents will receive a letter stating they are the parents of Baby New Year, which will entitle them to numerous gifts from area businesses.

The first baby to be born in 2017 at Washington County Hospital and Clinics is Charlotte Evelyn Keller, daughter of Miranda Sanders and Abe Keller of Wellman. She was born at 9:17 a.m. Jan. 5, 2017. She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 inches in length. Maternal grandparent is Michele McCormick. Paternal grandparents are Peter and Sheri Keller.

Brylee Elizabeth Carlin, daughter of Sarah Ruenger and Dakota Carlin of Columbus Junction, born at 4:01 p.m. Jan. 6, 2016, in Washington County Hospital and Clinics, was The Washington Evening Journal?s Baby New Year 2016. She was 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19-1/4 inches in length. Maternal grandparents are Casey and Rhonda Ruenger. Paternal grandparents are Mark and Tammy Davis.

The first baby to be born in 2015 at Washington County Hospital and Clinics was Marin Grace Hilterbrand, daughter of Jennifer and Drew Hilterbrand of Ninilchik, Alaska. She was born at 7:05 p.m. Jan. 1, 2015. She weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces and was 21 inches in length. She was joined at home by a sister, Tempest. Maternal grandparents are Vernon and Melanie Hammes of Richland. Paternal grandparents are Greg and Beth Hilterbrand of Texarkana, Texas.

Ezekiel William O?Berry, son of Robert and Jessica O?Berry of Wayland, was the first baby born in 2014 at the Washington County Hospital. He was born at 12:30 a.m. Jan. 3, 2014. He was 7 pounds, 13 ounces and 19.75 inches in length. Brothers Zephaniah and Ace joined him at home. Paternal grandparents include Billie Jean and Leo O?Berry of Black, Missouri and maternal grandmother is Angela Warren of Perry.

Ottumn Snow Schubick, daughter of Nate and Adale (Brown) Schubick of Winfield, was the first baby born at Washington County Hospital in 2013. She was born at 12:39 p.m. Jan. 4, 2013. She was 7 pounds, 3 ounces and 20 1/2 inches in length. She was joined at home by a sister, Sylvia and two brothers, Sylas and Elijah.

Baby New Year 2012 was Ayeshajo Elizabeth Monaghan, the daughter of Myah Monaghan of Morning Sun. She was born at 11:31 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3. She was 6 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 20-1/4 inches.
