The Oktober Madness events in Washington will finish off with Trick-or-Treat on the Square on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 31. Washington Chamber of Commerce director Michelle Redlinger said the chamber would then take a break through the month of November before the Tour Of Homes kicks off in December.
With plenty of safe, fun and free activities on the agenda, the annual Halloween event is always a heavy draw, with over 800 participants on a night with good weather. Redlinger said Don?s Jewelry reported giving out more than 1,100 pieces of candy last year. The merchant also said the top costumes included super heroes, Disney princesses and ninjas.
The Trick-or-Treat Around the Square begins at 5 p.m. in Central Park. An estimated 800 participants will be able to visit the businesses on the square, which will be giving candy. After the parade, the event also moves to the YMCA of Washington County, just off the square, for pony rides, hot dogs, bounce houses, games and more. Hayrides are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
?Its a great way to enjoy a community Halloween that is safe for families and a lot of our businesses work hard to help financially support this event,? she said.
