Deb Farrow of the L.E.T.?s Center for the Healing and Creative Arts (Learn, Embrace, Transform) was the ?Know Your Neighbor? speaker in Wedgewood recently. She gave an interesting overview about her life and travels and how she now calls Washington her home. She talked to the residents about all of the creative classes that are offered at the LET?s Center and a potential partnership here at Halcyon whereas some of the classes could be offered to residents here. That afternoon residents gathered in Sagewood to make flavored cream cheese mints for the refreshment tray in honor of the Red Cedar Chamber presenting a concert the next day.
On Thursday, Oct. 12, Halcyon residents were honored to have the Red Cedar Chamber Music present ?Czechstrings? to 68 residents, staff, families and community members in Timmins Dining Room. The audience enjoyed the performances of Miera Kim on violin and Carey Bostian on the cello. The duo presented a powerful Czech-inspired program. Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu?s Duo No. 2 which sounded distinctly American and Warren Gooch?s Fauxmanian Dances. Czech enthusiasts heard the great Furiant by Otakar Sevcik as well as a wonderful set of Czech folk songs arranged by Iowa composer Harvey Sollberger. The audience enjoyed socializing and having refreshments of meat, cheese and crackers, shrimp cocktail, assorted fresh fruit, punch, wine and mints after the performance and visited with the performers. The Artist Sponsorship was generously provided by Don and Irene (Naxera) Hamous and Schultz Strings in conjunction with Deb Farrow and the L.E.T.?s Center for the Healing and Creative Arts (Learn, Embrace, Transform). On Wednesday, Oct. 18, residents gathered in the Timmins Dining room to enjoy the musical talent of Zion Christian Fellowship who sang hymns and praised the Lord. Punch and fellowship followed their performance.
On Oct. 23, Ann Tweeton (Energy Medicine Practitioner) was the ?Know Your Neighbor? speaker in Wedgewood. Ann spoke and gave a wonderfully illustrated Powerpoint presentation outlining the benefits of Energy Medicine. An Energy Medicine Practitioner uses techniques to restore the flow and balance of energy to promote physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. She talked about the therapies of Healing Touch, Reiki, Re-connective Healing, Aromatherapy, Raindrop and Vita Flex Therapy.
