Grass fires fought in Washington County

The dry and windy conditions in Washington County led to several area fire departments being called over the Easter weekend to fight grass fires that had gotten out of control.

According to the Washington County call log, at 2:31 p.m. Friday, a grass fire was reported out of control in the 3300 block of Underwood Avenue in Crawfordsville and heading toward the field. No structures were close. Crawfordsville Fire responded and requested Olds Fire for mutual aid. The fire was extinguished.

At 3;25 p.m. Friday a caller in the 1100 block of 277th Street in Keota reported a CRP burn had gotten out of control. Richland Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.

At 4:32 p.m. Friday a fire with no one around was reported at 125th Street and Elm Avenue in Wellman and it appeared to be heading int a corn field. Wellman Fire Department and a sheriff?s deputy responded. The fire was extiniuished.

At 11:34 a.m. Saturday, a grass fire was reported out of control in the 1300 block of 275th Street in Washington. Keota Fire Department and Brighton Fire Department responded.
