The Washington girls? basketball team will kick off their season tonight against Eddysville-Blakesburg at home.

The team will be led by three seniors ? Morgan Brinning, Brooke Stout and Sarah Nacos.

Senior leadership is something the girls are trying to start in the program, Brinning said.

?And I hope that continues,? she added.

The seniors also have a year under their belt playing together.

?I think now that everyone has been playing together for a year we all have more experience,? Nacos said. ?We have learned the offense and defense more to get it down.?

This is the third year they?ve played with Jordan Bentley as head coach.

?And with the same coach for three years I think we?re finally getting the hang of him and everything he has with the program and everything he wants out of us,? Stout said.

They?re excited to play tonight.

?Home and it?s against Eddysville-Blakesburg,? Stout said.

?And we?re going to win,? Stout said, ?not like last year.?

?We did win last year,? Nacos said.

?I know, but it was a close one,? Stout said.

Nacos is happy they will start the season at home.

?It?s easier to start off your season with your home crowd there,? Nacos said. ?It?s a more inviting environment.?

Bentley said one thing going for the team this year is the maturity the girls have.

?We?re not as young as we were last year, so we got a little bit more experience,? Bentley said. ?I think it?s really helped to build a gym culture. We have really good leadership and some kids that were called upon to be leaders last year are embracing it more this year.?

The schedule this year will be tough, but the nice thing for the girls is there are 14 home games this year.

?We only play two road games before Christmas, which is really nice,? he said.
