Elizabeth Kay Bennett, 76, of Washington, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at her residence after a brave battle with cancer.
Her body has been donated to science, according to her wishes. Burial will be held at a later date in Cambridge, Illinois. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Bennett was born June 20, 1940, in Kewanee, Illinois, the daughter of Kenneth R. and Margrette E. (Anderson) Johnson. She married Frank Edmund. The couple later divorced. She married Rich Bennett on Jan. 6, 1990, in Washington.
She attended high school in Cambridge, Illinois, and Business College in Minnesota. She worked as a secretary for Doane Farm Management and in sales for Carpetland and Longaberger Baskets. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Questers Chilcote. She enjoyed gardening, antiques, cooking and entertaining, and seasonal decorations in her home. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Rich Bennett of Washington; three sons, Jerry Edmund and wife Sharon of Washington, Jim Edmund and wife Pam of Richmond, Texas, and Tim Edmund and wife Laura of Freeport, Illinois; her mother, Margrette Utech and husband Allan of Washington; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; and two brothers, Roger, and Steve.
