Eicher Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Wayland, Iowa celebrated its sesquicentennial on June 30 and July 1.
The celebration began with a video presentation of the church?s history, ?From hooks and eyes to IPhones.?
Afterward, an ice cream social was enjoyed by 150 guests. Sunday morning, July 1, began with coffee and rolls followed by the worship service.
The theme for the sesquicentennial ?Honoring the past and celebrating the future? guided the service.
Memories from Eicher?s past were presented at this service by former pastors, Melvin Koehn, Herb Yoder, Larry Evers, and Robert Hartzler. Tim Detweiler and current pastor, Dave Schooley, spoke on the theme of looking toward the church?s future.
A noon potluck meal for approximately 100 guests was provided by the Eicher congregation. At 2 p.m. local historian Michael Zahs presented a group tour of the Eicher Church Cemetery.
He provided information regarding the histories of cemeteries, burial customs and headstone symbolism.
