The petition to have a special election in the Washington Community School District was filed last week.
Now the district is receiving candidacy papers for those wanting to be on the ballot when the special election is held March 20.
?The papers have to be filed with me at the Central Office by Feb. 23,? WCSD business manager Jeff Dieleman said.
The central office will remain open until 5 p.m. that evening to receive papers from anyone wishing to be on the ballot, he added.
On Monday, Feb. 26, Dieleman will take the candidacy papers to the auditor?s office at the courthouse.
?They have to get 50 signatures to be on the petition,? Dieleman said.
Everyone who lives in the Washington Community School District will be able to vote in this election.
?You just have to live in District 2 to be a candidate,? Dieleman said.
This is the first time a special election was called for by the voters in the school district, he said.
In the past the superintendent has appointed a person to fill the empty board seat until the next regular election.
?Now that the petition has been filed, I hope somebody runs for it,? Dieleman added.
