The Washington girls? basketball team came away with a win on its opening night.
They beat Eddysville-Blakesburg 53 to 21.
?I thought we played very well on defense and did a pretty good job of rebounding the basketball and limiting Eddyville?s second-chance opportunities,? head coach Jordan Bentley said. ?Offensively we worked the half-court offense to get the shots we wanted. The girls brought great energy and effort to the game and I thought it really showed to everyone in attendance.?
Senior Sarah Nacos led the team with 21 points.
Junior Kira Ropp scored 10 points, senior Morgan Brinning scored eight points and Haylee Wilson scored six points.
The team will come back to the court at home next week.
?We now turn our focus to another great opponent in (Cedar Rapids) Washington, whom we will play Nov. 27 at home,? Bentley said.
