County amends 28E attorney agreement

The supervisors approved a resolution amending a 28E agreement for the assistant attorney who works in Washington and Keokuk counties at the meeting Wednesday morning.

Washington County attorney John Gish said the counties entered into the agreement in 2015.

?The two counties share an assistant county attorney,? Gish said. ?That requires the board to review the compensation of the assistant every year.?

The Keokuk County Supervisor?s already approved raising the assistant county attorney?s base pay to between $55,000 and $57,750, he added.

?Currently, it?s in a range of $45,000 to $55,000,? Gish said.

Supervisor Abe Miller asked Gish if he was correct by saying Keokuk County is the one setting the salary for the assistant attorney.

?The assistant is a Keokuk County employee,? Gish replied. ?All the paying benefits come from them and then we reimburse the county. I would add that Washington County pays half of the salary and benefits, though by my estimation the assistant works here at least 60 percent of his time, so we come out on top with this agreement.?

Gish asked the supervisors to approve the amendment to the agreement. The resolution was approved unanimously.

The supervisors also approved hiring Richard Conrad as a transport officer for the Washington County Sheriff?s Department, and appointments to various commissions, boards and committees.
