The December meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Leon Beatty Post 29 was held on Dec. 12, at the Washington County Ambulance Center. President Sue Gilmere called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.
The opening prayer was given by Dixie Young. The Pledge of Allegiance and the reading of the Preamble of God and Country were recited by all. Minutes were reviewed and approved. Dixie Conrad gave the treasurer?s report. Donations were made to: adopt a veteran?s family; to each of the four nursing homes, for the veterans? Christmas gifts; and HACAP. It was noted that the audit was complete. The treasurer?s report was approved.
Dixie reported that the unit is at 80 percent, with 50 paid members. The district is No. 2 in the state for membership, and District 1 is No. 1. Dues received from three members were acknowledged. Four members had not renewed their dues and will be dropped from the membership list if not paid by Dec. 31, 2017.
Dixie Conrad reported that she had contacted Sue Rich with the Veterans Affairs concerning adopting a veteran?s family for Christmas. Rich told her there were two families who use the help. Her suggestion was that gift cards from Wal-Mart be given to her, and she would make sure that they were given to those veteran families who were in need. Dixie reported that she had taken care of making sure Sue Rich got the cards.
A thank-you card was read from the United Presbyterian Home, thanking the Auxiliary for remembering the veterans and donating money for haircuts and mini bus rides, etc. Dixie Young reported that the Legion Riders soup supper had been canceled. Martha Hahn reported that it was time to send money to the state for Girls? State reservations. A motion was approved to send two girls to Girls? State. Martha will contact the high school for information.
The meeting was adjourned, with a closing prayer given by Dixie Young. The next meeting will be Jan. 9, 2018, at Washington County Ambulance.
