Carol Kay Carruthers, 73, of Brighton died Friday evening August 31, 2018, at her home. She was born December 6, 1944, in Ft. Madison to Otis and Marie Gullick. Carol graduated from Ft. Madison High School in 1962 where she participated in band and the Library Club. She married James "Red" Carruthers in Ft. Madison November 30, 1963, He died January 17, 2018. Carol was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed reading, baking, spending time outdoors and cherished her grandchildren. She worked at the Shaffer Pen Co, Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, The Calendar Factory, and Brighton Amoco Food Shop. Carol is survived by her daughter Kelly (Andy) Chalupa of Ankeny, two grandchildren: Carter and Charlie, and two brothers: Bill (Shelby) Gullick of Keokuk and Bob Gullick of Indianapolis, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday September 11, 2018, 6 to 7 P.M. at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton. Memorials are directed to Brighton First Responders or Brighton Fire Department and may be mailed to Kelly Chalupa at 3836 NW Kline Street, Ankeny, IA 50023. No services are planned.
