January 1, 1932 - March 25, 2018
Barbara Jean Godwin Meyer, of Pleasanton, Calif., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2018. She was a shining example of friendship, loyalty, commitment and adventure for friends and family.
Barbara was born in Washington, Iowa and graduated from Washington High School. Barbara earned her BA in Education from Northern Iowa State University (formerly Iowa State Teachers College), where she met her husband of 66 years, Kent Meyer. Barbara was an elementary teacher for over 25 years, primarily at Viking Elementary School in Fresno, Calif. She often spoke fondly of her days growing up in Washington, and the friends and teachers that inspired her. Barbara was very proud to be from Washington and to be the first baby born there in 1932. She enjoyed traveling the world, playing lots of tennis, and spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Kent; children, Nancy Meyer Coplen (Phil) and Gregory Meyer (Carol); grandchildren, Barbara Taylor (Russell), John Coplen (Carrie), Phillip Coplen (Megan), Tom Coplen (Brittany), Sarah Scheel (Josh), Kristiana Meyer and Jackson Meyer; as well as 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Colleen Robinson (Bob), Robert Godwin (Janet), and Fran Lonsdale; her brother in-law, Tom Meyer (Marlene); and 14 nieces and nephews.
Barbara's gentle spirit and kindness will be missed by all.
Per her wishes, the celebration of Barbara's life will be held at a later date on Kauai, where she had a home for over 30 years and enjoyed spending the afternoons watching the sunset
