People and businesses receiving calls from a source claiming to be Alliant Energy are advised not to give any personal or account information over the phone, as a scam has been reported in the area.
According to a news release from the Washington Police Department, numerous businesses called the police on Monday to report attempts to obtain money from people saying they are associated with Alliant Energy. The release said the scam caller is attempting to get the victim to believe their services would be shut off unless they make payments to their account immediately. The caller will leave a telephone number that, if called, will make the victim believe they are associated with Alliant Energy. The department said that these calls are not associated with Alliant Energy.
The police recommend people receiving one of these calls not give out personal or account information and to hang up immediately. The report said the police department is aware of the situation.
People who have given out information was advised to call the police department at (319) 653-2107.
A similar scam was reported in Fairfield in December. If you have any questions about your account, call Alliant Energy at 1-800-ALLIANT (1-800-255-4268) to check on the status of your account.
