4-H Senior Feature

Alexis Black, of Keota, is the daughter of Joel and Suzanne Black.

She attends Keota Community School and is a member of the Horse and Pony Club.

Her 4-H projects are photography, horses, dog, goat and also tried swine for a year.

?Throughout my years in 4-H I have helped do barn upkeep projects in the horse barn, gone on several trail rides with my club, helped at the turkey booth during the Kalona Fall Festival, and helped organize the vet clinic for the Horse and Pony Club,? Alexis said. ?I shared my pony at the Little Hands on the Farm exhibit at the fair last year. I have showed in the dog project for eight years and showed my dog at the state fair. I?ve shown my horses and participated in clinics with them. I showed my goats for the last two years. I attended roller skating parties and participated in mud volleyball. I was also a member of the Leadership Development group last year.?

Her special 4-H memory/highlight were the Water fights during the fair, Winning Overall Grand Champion with her dog, Sam, getting two photographs to the state fair and training her horse herself and winning my class. She also loved being a role model for the younger members of her club.

?I learned a lot of different skills in 4-H,? Alexis said. ?I learned how to be responsible and developed many leadership skills. Through 4-H, I met a lot of new people and experienced many opportunities that I would not have otherwise.?

Her future plans are to attend Iowa State University and major in animal science.
