Leslie A. Zickefoose, 75, of rural Brighton, died late Saturday May 11, 2019, at his home following a brief bout with cancer. He was born June 29, 1943, in Brighton to William Ernest and Bessie E. (Neff) Zickefoose. He married Joelyn C. Trier on January 17, 1964, in Cranston, Iowa. Les graduated from Brighton High School in 1961. He worked at Fairfield Engineering Company for many years, ending his career there as plant manager when it closed. He was also employed at Keatings and Fansteel in Washington and the Washington YMCA. Les was a long-time member of the Marion Avenue Baptist Church, had served in the Iowa Army National Guard, enjoyed coon hunting, working with his draft horses and mules and was instrumental in repealing zoning regulations in Washington County.
Les is survived by his wife, Joelyn, three daughters: Lori (Kevin) Dice of Washington, IA Carol (Bryan) Luckey of Hannibal, MO and Teresa (Mike) Johnson of Bourbonnais, IL, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Jean Dunbar of Washington, IA and Darlene Reighard of Clever, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Leonard and Gail Zickefoose and 2 sisters: Olletha Waterhouse and June Ricks.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday May 17, 2019, at Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington with Pastors Larry Brown, Kevin Dice and Travis Decker officiating. Burial will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery near Wayland. No visitation is planned. Memorials for the Round Prairie Baptist Church building fund may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1540 280th Street, brighton, IA 52540. Gould Funeral Home in Brighton is assisting the family.
